Jazz Band Surveys

Good evening,

Please visit our jazz

band website http://jazz.kwh.keysschools.schoolfusion.us/ and review the possible

new music order for the new year. You can select multiple pieces, links

to recordings are below the survey.

Also, preliminary planning

for a possible trip to Cuba began last year.

We are looking at possibly leaving the week of March 19th and

having the trip extend into the first part of spring break. Everything is contingent on us receiving a

travel license, affordable trip price, and instrumentation (personnel)

attending. Please respond to the questions in this survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1O5R7choX5RyeX23YC1W32Ut0coTeqszNkz7QTOkpfEU/viewform

Football Game Friday 8-30 & Other Info

Good

afternoon,

Please see the information

below. It is crucial for us to have the

funding to be able to travel to our MPAs and competitions; each trip costs the

band in excess of $6,000. Sponsorships

are the easiest and most profitable; please use the forms below. You can print and use them or email them to

your contacts; copies are also available in the band room. Click here for our basic budget: KWHS Band Budget This budget does not

include the purchase of new marching uniforms ($50,000) or extracurricular

trips. We are always looking for big

money donors beyond our annual expenses, our uniforms are now 13 years old.

Reminders for Tonight’s Game

Good afternoon,

It has

been a very warm but productive week in the band room! Even though it has been a constant 82 degrees

indoors we are still functioning very well.

I have been assured that admin is doing everything they can to fix our

annual AC issue, for some reason it has stopped cooling exactly when school

starts for each of the past 5 years.

Coincidentally today, our percussion class had the most functional and productive

class I have experienced in my 5 years here at KWHS, kudos to their hard

work! Please see the reminders below

about tonight’s game:

*Friday Evening (8-23) Pre-Season Football Game! Please

wear your red band shirt and black athletic shorts along with dark colored

closed toe shoes. Report to Poinciana Elementary School Cafeteria Before 6:30pm

but not earlier than 6:00pm. Please wear your red band shirt and black

athletic shorts along with dark colored closed toe shoes-red water bottle too.

Please be aware that there is no set time for football games to end and

transportation should be coordinated through cell/text messaging upon the

conclusion of the game. This game starts

at 7:00pm, earlier than usual, and will conclude much earlier as well.

Parents, we still need a few volunteers.

Please visit to sign up.

*Percussion and Sousaphones (tubas) are expected to

load their instrument on the truck directly afterschool, unload it at 6:00pm,

and load/unload after the event is over each week.

*Season Football Tickets are on Sale! 50% goes directly towards each band student’s

Charms account fees etc. Please send in

by getting a check directly from them and then delivering the ticket after

receiving it. These tickets do not

include the Pre-Season game this Friday which is a “soap game” and

donations of money or other goods will be a be accepted at the gate for the

Tag Day Wrap-up

Thank you!

A huge thank you to everyone! Grand success at $3,973.75 in donations, $932.52 more than last year’s tag day. I big thank you to Mardee Eamilao & Jenny Hardin for collecting the money all day long in addition to all of the parents who helped chaperone each of our five locations. We will conduct another similar tag day later this year, likely in December, in addition to having ensembles perform at Mallory Square throughout the year.

Our regular Marching Band rehearsals take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00-5:00pm and begin on August 20th.

Our first game (pre-season) is on Friday, August 23rd. Please look for an email with specifics early next week.

Alway s consult the band calendar at www.KWHSBand.com for event dates approximately one year out or with at least 4 weeks notice. We also have a blog that keeps each email that is sent out for your reference: https://kwhsband.wordpress.com/ These can also be found on Charms in the News area for a limited period of time. Our FaceBook page, please like us, is primarily used to share good news of the band program for the community at large and is not used for logistics communication to current members and parents. Email is our primary form of communication and you can use your social media outlets to subscribe to the email blog or use push apps on your phone to do so as well if you are not a daily email user.

Have a great weekend & see you Monday!

Tag Day Tomorrow-Saturday 8-17

Good afternoon,

Great

band camp and BBQ performance, the best yet!

Thanks again to everyone who helped put together a great BBQ meal!

Our

first Tag Day is tomorrow (Saturday) 8-17.

This is a huge fundraiser that brings in quite a bit of money each

year. Students and chaperones should

check to see what time slot they have signed up for and arrive a few minutes

early to take over from the previous shift.

Several slots have been added to the new Publix location and Faustos

needs a few filled, we must have chaperones at all locations as well, please

see below. Please wear your RED Band

Shirt and black shorts. Be sure to be

very polite to everyone whether they donate or not and use appropriate language

at all times, our primary purpose is to raise money from our very supportive

community. Thank everyone you encounter

and invite them to our football games and concerts whether they donate anything

or not. Checks made payable to Key West

High School can also be accepted.

Chaperones are stationed at each location in case of an emergency and to

assist students in maintaining appropriate community relations (thankful and

not just socializing with each other). Mardee

Rath-Eamilao or myself will be making the rounds collecting the money

periodically, only give it to us. Please

call me (305) 396-1896 if there is an

emergency, I will be in the band room most of the day as well 293-1549 ext.
