Concert MPA Saturday & Spring Trip

Good afternoon,

We are hosting Concert MPA here at KWHS on Saturday, March 4th (other bands are traveling here to be evaluated). Please see the student info below as well. We also run a concession stand and feed about 200 students and whoever else wants a bite. We need help with this event either through donation of food items and/or volunteers. Hosting is a great opportunity for us to save everyone from riding a bus for 7+ hours and to even make a little money off of the event-otherwise we would be traveling to Miami with most of our students. Please see below for what we need and our student report/lunch times.

Items Needed:

-Cases of water and other soft drinks (few soft drinks needed). Drop off at the band room by 4:00pm, March 3rd.

-Sweets individually wrapped in $1 amounts. Drop off at auditorium concession by 12:00pm, March 4th.

Volunteers, click below for Charms sign up for band parents (concession and student officers: we are hosting 3 other school bands, we will need guides and stage crews for this event (students): https://www.charmsoffice.com/charms/volunteerR.asp?s=KyWstHSB&v=3474345

*Concert Band Music Performance Assessment: Saturday, March 4th.

Symphonic Band will perform at 1:00pm, arrive by 12:15pm for warm-up & concert attire.

Wind Ensemble will perform at 3:00pm, arrive by 2:15pm for warm-up, wear your concert attire to the school.

-Pizza for both KWHS groups will be at 2:15pm.

-Parents are always welcome to follow us into the Sight-Reading room (no video or photography in the SR room please).

*Possible Optional Spring Trip survey, please complete this Google form by Friday, March 3rd, if you intend to go on this trip: https://goo.gl/forms/Ij2JTCcvR1btSupg2

*Charms statements will be updated with volunteer and general fundraising credits next week, this will add $50-80 per account.

Looking forward to it!

Colorguard After School-Must Leave Campus

To all Colorguard Members and Parents,

There are currently no after school practices scheduled through the end of this school year with the exception of a possible single audition day. All students must leave the campus after the release bell at 2:30pm daily if they do not have an activity or sport scheduled. Colorguard students may practice individually in the band room or band hallway only if Mr. Hernandez or Jason Hoeffer is present from 2:30pm until the band room is closed, at which time students are to leave campus. There is to be no unsupervised outdoor practice at any time. If the band room or hallway are unavailable and Mr. Hernandez nor Jason Hoeffer are unavailable, you must promptly leave campus.

Svetlana Smolina returns for a special encore performance with
the South Florida Symphony Orchestra.

Submerge In The Sweet Sounds of
Order By Disorder

Glorious melody after glorious melody flows from the stage as South Florida Symphony Orchestra performs our third concert series of the season. The dialogue between orchestra and featured soloist, Svetlana Smolina is divine. Back by popular demand, Smolina will be performing Rachminov’sPiano Concerto No. 2 in C minor.

Rachminov’s most popular work embodies his signature style, the pairing of rich velvety harmonies with deeply emotional melodies. Together SFSO and Smolina capture every memorable phrase, swelling cello line and weighty piano chord, beautifully, to create a musical masterpiece. Keep a keen ear to the sublime second movement. You may think you’ve heard the tune somewhere else; the powerful ballad ‘All By Myself’ was based on this Rachminov melody.

Rimsky-Korsakov’s “The Snow Maiden Suite” opens this energetic and passionate program. An unshakable reviser and arranger, Rimsky-Korsakov regarded it as “…my best work, not only that but perhaps, on the whole, the best of all contemporary operas.”

Nielsen’s Fifth Symphony concludes the night with his interpretation of the conflict between the creative and destructive sides of human nature. These are the forces at play in his powerful work which is sometimes called his “war symphony.”

Gripping, fascinating and full of emotion, “Order by Disorder” will be the season’s most talked about show. Performing at:

Good morning,

Colorguard: Please report by 10 AM on Saturday, February 18 for solo and ensemble for rehearsal. We have secured the gym earlier Saturday morning, we have had limited access to the gym due to wrestling tournament on Friday and classes this past Monday. This will give every solo list a chance to practice in the gym, and the full ensemble to do several run-throughs before their afternoon performance.

Thank you,

Gary Hernandez

Ethos Percussion Group

FEBRUARY 12, 2017 — 4 PM

The superlatives just keep coming as Ethos enters its third decade of exceptional music-making and devotion to the world of percussion. All individually accomplished artists, the members of Ethos are equally at home with contemporary classical website press kit repertoire or in collaborations with master-musicians from non-Western traditions. Their unique performances seamlessly transport global influences into Western chamber music to create a visually and aurally compelling experience.
